About William G. Clark

This generation of William Clark, a younger brother of Amanda Clark Rhoads and son of George W. Clark, may have been named for his great grandfather also named William Clark. This William was sometimes called "Willie" or "Willy" by his sisters and he moved to West Virginia where some of his grandchildren were still living in 2009 including Deoborah Clark Holland in Huntington, WV. William or "Willy" died in 1947. Here is what his grandson Dan Clarke Eohat wrote about his memory of his grandfather in 2008:

Granddad Clark

Our granddad was something of a character. He worked many years for the B&O railroad and knew many stories, which he loved to tell by the hour after he retired and came to live with us in Westmoreland. He, my dad and I built a garage apartment so we would have enough room for him and grandma. My mom and dad gave up their bedroom and lived in the apartment because the stairs became a problem as graddad got older. My dad and granddad did the building; I got to straighten nails and listen ad nauseum to my granddad explain how "for the want of nail, the shoe was lost; for the want of the shoe the horse was lost; for the want of the horse the battle was lost; for the want of the battle the war was lost."

But my granddad was a good man and taught me many things that still stay with me. He had a remarkable memory and could quote long passages from the bible as well as many poems and stories. He, my dad and I went fishing a lot. He helped me land my first crappie (by catching it in his lap when I excitedly jerked it out of the water.)

As I near the age of my granddad when he passed, I am even more impressed with him and how he was able to find time even during the pain of cancer to talk to me and give me the warmth of his love.
