About William Harpur

He was believed lost at sea by his family. His brother Charles Harpur wrote of him in 1847 : 'Of our youngest living brother, William,—if he be living,—who went to sea, a boy, we have heard little for years'. http://charles-harpur.org/corpix/english/harpur/C382/00000042.jpg

But William survived and sailed to New Zealand where he married, at Moeraki, Waikouaiti, a Maori woman, Mere Titope Kaikanui Pakinui, with whom he had 10 children, and many of those had a similar number of children, so that his descendants quickly numbered in the hundreds.
