William Hewes of Chichester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, was said to be a son of William Hewes and Mary Withers. He married Lydia Dutton, daughter of Thomas and Lucy Dutton, on 6 mo. 30, 1739 [30 Aug 1739] at Chichester meeting.
"William Hewes son of William and Mary Hewes of Chichester in the County of Chester in the Province of Pennsylvania and Lydia Dutton daughter of Thomas and Loucey Dutton of the Township of Aston in the County and Province aforesaid ... for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 15 th day of the 6th mo in the year of our Lord 1739 they the said William Hewes and Lydia Dutton appeared at a public meeting at the meeting house in Chichester .. [and they made their vows].
His wife Lydia died 4 mo. 11, 1748 [11 Jun 1748].
He then married Rebecca Gregory. There is a record of a marriage of Rebecca Gregory and William Hews on the 29th Apr [no year given] at Holy Trinity (or Old Swedes) Church, Wilmington, New Castle, Delaware.
Children:

Aaron Hewes three others (names not known) predeceased William. Which wife was the mother of his son Aaron is uncertain although his first wife appears to be the most probable (see below 'Accounts of Richard Dutton 1768 & 1769').

His father, William Hewes 'the elder' of Chichester, Yeoman, died intestate around 1746. William was of age and as the eldest son he became Administrator of his father's estate. A petition to the Orphans Court of 17 Mar 1746/1747 recorded that William Hewes late of Chichester died intestate leaving a wife, five sons: William Hewes, John Hewes, Samuel Hewes, Isaac Hewes & Caleb Hewes; and three daughters and one grand-daughter: Lydia the wife of William Grub, Rebecca the wife of Samuel Grubb, Sarah Moulder in right of her mother Sarah, and Hannah Hewes.
