About Isaac Hewes

Isaac Hewes of Chichester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, was said to be a son of William Hewes and Mary Withers.
He married Lydia Weldon. The marriage of Isaac 'Hughes' and Lydia Weldon took place on 06 Dec 1748 at Philadelphia. In terms of location the entry states the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting and 'event place (original)' Christ Church, Philadelphia.

Isaac's father, William Hewes 'the elder' of Chichester, Yeoman, died around 1746. A petition to the Orphans Court of 17 Mar 1746/1747 recorded that William Hewes late of Chichester died intestate leaving a wife, five sons: William Hewes, John Hewes, Samuel Hewes, Isaac Hewes & Caleb Hewes; and three daughters and one grand-daughter: Lydia the wife of William Grub, Rebecca the wife of Samuel Grubb, Sarah Moulder in right of her mother Sarah, and Hannah Hewes.
In the will of his mother "Mary Hewes of Chichester widdow & Relict of Wm Hewes late of ye same place deceased" dated 29 day of 4th mo 1748, she made a bequest of 5 shillings to her son William Hewes and a number of bequests to her daughter Hannah Hewes. She noted her daughter in law Mary Hewes wife of her son John Hewes and her grandaughter Sarah Moulder who was under 18. The residue of her estate she willed should be divided equally between her seven children: John, Samuel, Isaac, Calib, Lyddia & Rebecca Grubb and Hannah Hewes. Her son John Hewes was appointed Executor. The will was proven on 20 Aug 1750.
In a document of 1755 concerning a number of the heirs of William Hewes 'the elder', Isaac was noted as being deceased: Caleb Hewes of Chester County, feltmaker, John Hewes of Chester County, executor of the will of Isaac Hewes, late of Chester County, yeoman, dec., William Vaughan, shipwright, & Hannah his wife, Samuel Grubb of the County of New Castle, yeoman, & Rebecca his wife, William Grubb of New Castle County, yeoman & Lydia his wife, Nathaniel Falkener of Chester County, mariner, & Sarah his wife, which Caleb, Isaac, Hannah, Rebecca, Lydia & Sarah were the children & grandchild of William Hewes late of Chichester, mason, dec. William Hewes at the time of his death had been seized in certain tracts of land & died intestate, leaving issue 8 children & 1 grandchild to survive him. William Hewes, the eldest son & heir at law [who was deceased by 1755] had paid the younger children their share of the value of the land.
John Fairlamb was appointed guardian of his daughter Rebecca.
