A small creek ran through the Hiatt tract, and someone dammed it and built a mill for grinding corn. Charity held an interest in the farm until it was bought by Amer Hiatt, and he after ca 7 years sold it out of the family in 1823. This is the farm that William Hiatt had inherited from his father. As we know William Hiatt had inherited his fathers farm and had married Charity Williams of Welsh descent. It was during his lifetime that the Battle of General Green and Cornwallis took place on the farm and adjoining territory. The wounded soldiers of both armies were taken into the New Garden Meeting House; and Mrs Hiatt baked bread for them. On 17 May 1769 when William was 26, he married Charity WILLIAMS, F, daughter of Richard WILLIAMS, M + Prudence BEALS, F, in New Garden Monthly Meeting Rowen Co NC. Born on 6 May 1750 in Prince George Co MD. Charity died in at dau. Rebecca's Spiceland, Henry Co IN on 17 Mar 1840; she was 89. Buried in Spiceland Friends Cemetery, IN. Charity moved to Indiana in 1824 with some of her children.
