Notes for William John Carey
A Master Mariner who served on sailing ships during his training period. He was a Captain and his last address was 224 College Street Palmerston North. Born in Blenheim in 1872 he received his education there. Then trained to serve at sea and joined the Union Steam Ship Company and commanded several ships. After a period on shore he joined the Anchor Shipping Co Ltd retiring from that company in 1937. Since that time he had been living in Palmerston North in retirement, his main interests being gardening and Cabinet making. He was of quiet disposition and had many friends.
