About William Kendall, II

. The exact dates of birth, marriage and death for William has not been proven. The date listed by Norman Festus Kendall can not be verified nor has the source he used been determined.

From: "The Kendall Family History" By Denise Kelley Mortorff, Ellen Kendall Kelley, Elma Jane Richardson Scott; Privately printed, c 1989. Denise focused much of her research on the descendant of William Kendall of Nelson County, Kentucky, presumed son of William Kendall and Jemima Kirk. Y-DNA analysis of the male Kendall descendants of William and Jemima proved William of Nelson County was NOT the son of William and Jemima. Their son was William Kendall of Jefferson County, KY.

"William Kendall and Jemima Kirk were married and raised their family at Stafford County....."It appears William was a farmer. He may be listed on a Stafford quit-rent roll for the years of 1758 and 1760. His son Jeremiah states in the fall of 1775, "I was then living with my father who resided near the upper end of Stafford and within a few miles of said Capt. [William] Washington."

From History of Ritchie County:

(Origin of the ancestors of those who settled in Ritchie County, West Virginia) "This couple (William and Jemima) were the parents of ten children: Jesse, Thomas, George, Anne, John, William, Samuel, Mary Anne, Elizabeth, and Jeremiah. And one of these sons, which one cannot be determined, crossed the mountains from the "Old Dominion" and settled in Marion county [see above, Samuel], not far from the time of the birth of his youngest son, James Kendall, in 1784.

Family of William Kendall and Jemima Kirk:

  1. Jesse Kendall born October 4, 1740
  2. Thomas Kendall born May 27, 1742
  3. George Kendall born January 13, 1744
  4. Anne Kendall born December 6, 1745
  5. John Kendall born March 21, 1748
  6. Samuel (twin), August 30, 1749
  7. Wiliam (twin), August 30, 1749
  8. Mary Anne, April 9, 1752
  9. Elizabeth, April 1, 1754
  10. Jeremiah (of Penn.), February 6, 1758
