WILLIAM LOTT was born abt 1755 at Edgecombe County, North Carolina and died before 11 Apr 1822 at Marion County, Mississippi.44 He married45 (1) a Cherokee Indian46 and (2) 22 Mar 181947 at Marion County, Mississippi Rebecca Harris. He was a Revolutionary War soldier in South Carolina and served under General Sumter in the South Carolina militia. In 1790 he was in Orangeburg District (south part, became Barnwell County, SC) with a wife and four daughters. He also moved to Mississippi with his brothers.48 It was this Lott who donated the property on Lott’s Bluff to the town; the property was in the current downtown of Columbia, Marion County. As near as the author has been able to discern, Lott’s Bluff is southwest of the center of town toward the (Pearl) River. William moved back to Telfair County, Georgia and was a representative to the Georgia legislature in 1808-9. He had had one son, William b. 1820.
