About William Bullington McPherson
William was the sixth-born of Andrew Barton McPherson and Parthenia Hale, both natives of Tennessee. He is located with his wife Harriet "Hattie" Hopper until his grave in the Yountville Veterans Cemetery can be located. He is recorded as a Sergeant in the Mexican War; Company H, 4th Tennessee Infantry in October 1847. He was badly wounded in Mexico City, by a bullet that remained lodged in his spine. In spite of that wound, he also participated in the California Modoc Indian Wars in 1873. It eventually dictated his later life. He once had considerable wealth, owning tracts of land with his three sons in the Cuyamas Valley near Santa Barbara, California. McPherson Peak therein is named after him. His fortune appears to have dissolved as he became increasingly crippled and was forced to stay with his children and then the Old Soldiers Home. He passed away and was buried there according to the McPherson Family genealogy. Follow-up research with the Veterans Administration is leaving this location in question. An alternate location may be the North Kern Cemetery in Delano, California. A stamped concrete marker exists there imprinted: B42 LCI WILLIAM B. McPHERSON
