On 15 Oct. 1700, a church was gathered at Harwich, consisting of eight male members, of whom William Merrick was one. On February 9, 1704, the wife of Ensign William Myrick was also admitted to the church. At a town meeting assembled March 20, 1701, Ensign William Myrick was elected to represent the town as agent, as occassion might require, 'that our town's bounds may be fully known'. He represented the town in General Assembly in 1919. In 1722 he was surveyor of highways for the town. In 1725 he is reported as having childen of school age. He died October 30, 1732. His will was dated May 5, 1728, and was proved November 9, 1732.'[3]

He was admitted freeman of Eastham about 1675. About the end of the century William Myrick moved to Harwich, where he became a prominent citizen. October 16, 1700, a church was organized at Harwich, and he became one of the eight constituent male mambers. On February 9, 1704, the wife of Ensign William Myrick was admitted to the church. At a town meeting held March 20, 1701, Ensign William Myrick was elected to represent the town as agent, as occasion might require 'that our town's bounds may be fully known.' In 1719 he represented the town in the general court. In 1722 he was surveyor of highways for the town. In 1725 he is reported as having children of school age. Giles was a son of Stephen Hopkins, one of the Mayflower Pilgrims. He married (second) Elizabeth, whose surname is unknown. William Meyrick of Harwich, yeoman, being "now arrived to old age" wrote his will, dated 05 May 1723 with a codicil on 9 August 1729, and proved 29 November 1732. He named his wife Elizabeth Meyrick (and the estate she brought with her), sons Joshua, Benjamin, Nathaniel, Stephen (and wife Deborah) and John. He mentioned lands he received title to from his father-in-law Giles Hopkins. He mentioned unnamed children of his deceased daughter Rebeckah Sparrow; daughter Ruth Sears; daughters-in-law (step-daughters) Mercy Witherels and Rachel Rogers.[5]
He mentions lands he bought of Ananias Wing, Thomas Snow, Nathaniel Doane & Major Freeman; a great parcel of meadowland in Billingsgate. He mentions two parcels of meadow at the East meadow and Rock harbour meadown in Eastham. He mentions that four sons are living at Harwich: Benjamin, Nathaniel, Stephen and Joshua. He named sons Benjamin & Nathaniel as executors.[5]
An inventory of his estate was dated 8 January 1733, and sworn to by the named executors. The "now widow" Elizabeth's goods were separated out.[5]
By deed of 3 Feb. 1741/2 Benjamin Mirrick and Nathaniel Mirrick, yeomen, and Chillingsworth Forster, blacksmith and Ruth, his wife, seamstress, all of Harwich, conveyed land in Eastham to Jonathan and Joseph Sparrow, both of Eastham, husbandmen, as intended by Mr. William Mirrick, late of Harwich, he being grandfather of grantees and father of grantors.'[1] Sources

William Merrick appeared on the 1670 list of Eastham freeman, and he served there as surveyor of highways in 1678-9 and as a grand juror in 1684. He moved to the north precinct of Harwich before 1694, the year in which he petitioned for incorporation of the town. He was one of seven who established the church at Harwich in 1700 and his second wife joined in 1704. He served as an ensign in the militia from 1702 to 1709 and represented Harwich in the General Assembly in 1719.
