About William A. Orcutt, (IV) V

William Orcutt IV, born in or near Bridgewater, Massachusetts, perhaps on August 13, 1695, He was married to Sarah Leonard on February 27, 1720/21 in Bridgewater. They had one son in Bridgewater, went to Stafford, Connecticut about 1724, and had 9 more children there.William was probably one of the proprietors of Stafford. He died on February 7, 1776, in Willington, Connecticut where his children James, Sarah, and Lemuel were living.

Children of William Orcutt IV and Sarah Leonard are:

  • Moses ("Mut") Orcutt (Olcutt, Alcut, Orcut), b. December 10, 1737, Stafford, Connecticut, USA, d. Abt. 1834, Pittstown (Richmond),Monroe County, New York, USA.
  • Jacob Orcutt, b. May 2, 1723.
  • William Orcutt, b. April 25, 1725.
  • Solomon Olcutt, b. May 4, 1730.
  • Susanna Orcutt, b. September 29, 1727.
  • Simeon Orcutt, b. August 2, 1732.
  • Lemuel Orcutt, b. August 26, 1735.
  • Sarah Orcutt, b. November 7, 1740.
  • Jane Orcutt, b. July 26, 1743.

Note: Some sources list William IV as the son of William Orcutt (Son of William Awcotte and brother to Andrew Orcutt) and Jane Washburn. I can not find that this William had a son named WiIliam by any of his three wives Searching for further documentation. It was mentioned in an article that I read that it was not unusual to add the numerical suffix to children named after their grandfathers. (See Explanation below) D. Glenn

  • William Orcutt son of Andrew is probably called Junior because Andrew was the son of William the 1st. This was a common practice used to differentiate between family members with the same name. They didn't always have to be father and son.
