Guard to George Washington
After army discharge, he was given 200 acres in Scott County Virginia March 19th Notes for William Henry Pace: (Research):".....William Pace (John-Joseph-John) who was a member ofWashington's Guards was born in Goochland County Va. 10 Oct 1745. He died in Scott Co. Va. ca. 1815, where he acquired land on a grant to Revolutionary soldiers. I believe he served two hitches. He first joined the 14th Virginia in 1777 and was discharged Nov. 1783. His first wife was Elizabeth Newsome Wade, second Mrs. Mary Ann Winegar. He had a single child [Elizabeth b. ca. 1770] with Wade and seven with Winegar. Joseph ca 1776, Nancy ca 1778, Elisha ca. 1783, Susannah ca. 1785, Edward (Neddy) ca. 1786, Margery ca. 1788. William Jr. ca. 1792. I believe some researchers question the Winegar marriage. Between hitches he was home from Jan. 18, 1779 to Sept. 1, 1779. Battles involved in Morristown 1777, Hospital June-July 1777, Brandywine 1777, Germantown 1777, Monmouth 1778, Conn. Farms 1780, King of Prussia 1781, and Yorktown 1781! He was discharged Nov. 3, 1783. I believe he was mustered out in New York state. Just last year there was a dedication at his grave site, I have the info somewhere if you need it. I think Nancy Rupp is of this line and I also believe that Diane Hinshaw line includes Edward "Neddy" Pace. John Pace of Middlesex would be the Great Grandfather of this William Pace.... Jack Pace, Williamsburg Va. "
...and in Feb., 2003 Gordon W. Pace adds: "...I think that Henry was William Henry Pace, Sr. who was George Washington's "Life Guard" for six years during the Revolutionary War. He lived in Goochland Co, Albemarle Co and Scott Co, VA and is buried in Opossom Creek Cemetery near Yuma, VA. He was a son of John H. Pace and Susanna Houchins. This is the earliest use of the name Henry by a Pace in America that I know of. Gordon W. Pace"
In the muster rolls for the 14th Virginia Regiment of Foot, he is given as Williamson, William, and Wm Pace, but not Henry.
