Family Group Record Burial Place of William B. Pennington has been located but not verified....

William B. Pennington served in the Civil War enlisting Aug 1862 for three years. He was a Private in Co. "B" 33rd Regt. MO. Vol Inf.

His Capt. was John G. Hudson His Col. was William A. Filo

His regiment was ordered from Helena, AK. sometime in January of '63 to go to Duralls Bluff and returned to Helena in the first days of February 1863. It was during this mission that he became very sick and fell to his death soon after returning to Helena (Feb. 15, 1863)

The records state that two fellow soldiers helped bury him (Reuben Frazier and Gustav Zucholdt.)

William Pennington,Pvt,Co B,33rd MO Volunteer Inf is buried in the Mississippi National Cemetery in Memphis,TN. Section 1,Grave # 411

His original place of interment is given only as "near Helena,AR",date of death 2/16/63

Info from The Roll of Honor, Vol21, p104. June,1869 report. We will be contacting them as its possible the grave site numbering system was changed in 1873 to a simple number when they replaced wooden markers with granite headstones.

NOTE: The Mississippi Nat. Cemetery in Memphis is now known as the... Memphis National Cemetery in Memphis.

It is still unknown where his wife Lucy was buried.... she died only 4 years after (per military records and child custody records.)

Note An account that I read reported William contracted and died of complications of rheumatism. On application for pension it states he died of exposure while sleeping on the deck of a boat they were being transported back to Arkansas on. (See Source to read original document) D. Glenn
