William Edward Pursley, a son of Hudson and Elizabeth (Short) Pursley, was born in Botetourt County VA in 1842 and died in Akron, Ohio in November 1926. He served the Confederacy in the Civil War. William came to Roane County WV in 1866.

1. He married Nellie Wright in Roane County January 7, 1868. Nellie was born about 1845 and died in Roane County in April 1886.
2. William married Nancy E. Icenhour. Nancy was born in 1860 and died in Roane County in 1913.
3. William married Luby Montgomery July 4, 1914. Luby died in 1914 in Roane County.
