Satterthwaite, William was born 25 Apr 1709 and died 1787 in Bucks, Pennsylvania. He was married to Pleasant Mead 15 Feb 1735/1736 in Middletown MM, Bucks, Pennsylvania. Pleasant was born 22 Mar 1716/1717 in Pennsylvania and died after 1787 in Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth Satterthwaite in The Burial Ground at Colthouse says that one of the few Satterthwaites to leave his native land was William, eldest son of Michael of the Cragg and his wife Hester Tyson. A certificate from the Swarthmore Monthly Meeting held 5 Feb 1733/34 at Rook How in Lancaster, England, recommended him as a young man of sober and orderly life and converstion, "clear from all women in these parts on account of Marriage so far as we know and also free from the contracting of any debts being an able and industrious workman in the tilling of land and husbandry" [Satterthwaite, 1914]. The Middletown Monthly Meeting in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, received William and accepted that certificate in September, 1734 [Mead, 1998]. The next year, in the 4th month 1735, William and Pleasant Mead appeared and declared their intention to marry. Mena Mead has the date of marriage as 15 Feb 1735/1736, which is eight months later, and notes that Elizabeth Mead signed in the place usually designated for parents.

Witnesses to the will of Samuel Cary, of Newtown, signed 4th mo., 2d. 1764 and proved June 16, 1766, included both Willliam Satterthwaite Sr. and Jr. as well as a James Moon. The will of Isaac Hodgson, of the Falls Twp., signed 8th mo., 31, 1767 and proved October 17, 1767 and for which James Moon of Middletown was executor, bequeathed £5 to Pleasant Satterthwaite, with William one of the witnesses. William Satterthwaite the elder was the executor along with the widow Sarah for the will of James Price, of Middletown, signed April 16, 1770, proved June 26, 1770. William, Jr. was one of the witnesses.page 2150], William bequeathed land in Lower Makefield, Falls and Middletown townships of Bucks County to his son William, with provisions for Pleasant's support as long as she lived as a widow. He also bequeathed to William "certain tenement or dwelling house and shops" belonging to a lot in the City of London, and allowing his five daughters the yearly rents therefrom. Also to William went "the clock", "the writings of William Penn commonly called William Penn's History", and £100. Pleasant's brothers William and Samuel are known from letters written concerning the purchase of land [Mead, 1998; citing "Mead Family" by Pritchard].

All of the children and descendants of William are from Mena Mead [Mead, 1998]. Extensive notes from her file have been selectively rewritten (as they were all in caps and garbaged somewhat in file translations) and added here. She has 456 direct descendants of William and Pleasant.
