Notes for WILLIAM B. SHERRILL:

Captain Sherrill served with Colonel, later Brig. Gen. John Sevier in the Battle of King's Mountain. (History of Catawba County, NC page 77).

He married and settled on Catawba River, NC , but moved to Tenn. Later he returned to N. Carolina where he died. Buried at Sherrill (Babel) Cemetery, Lincoln Co. North Carolina. Arrived at the Catawba River at age 24 with his wife and two children. Wanda L. Clark,1304 East Miami, McAlester, Oklahoma 74501.' BIOGRAPHY: Page 497, Alexander County: 'Adam Sherril [sic] was born inAmerica around 1697. Researchers disagree as to which colony, but theyall agree that he crossed the Catawba River with his eight sons to becomethe first white settler in what is now Catawba County in 1747. A monumenthas been placed by his descendants at the crossing site which has becomeknown as Sherill's Ford. Adam and Elizabeth, his wife, had eight sons. Atleast three of them went on to Tennessee. It is the line of their sonWilliam (1723-1786) that we will follow.' BIOGRAPHY: 'He married Agnes White in 1743 and they lived near DudleyShoals in Caldwell County.'    'Captain William Sherrill was allowed by the Assembly 27 pounds and 15 shillings for service rendered by himself and ten other men on expedition to Silver Creek and Quaker Meadows (Located now in Burke County). C.R. 9-257. Compare C.R. 22-878.'

[He was commisioned as a Capt during the Revolutionary War and later served at the Battle of King's Mountain.]
In an earlier record is found a petition signed by the same William Sherrill, of Anson County (later Tryon and afterward Lincoln) with others asking for a land grant of 600 acres for himself. (1752) C.R. 4-1014
