1863 coach incident

Some say he is the William Smith that drove the coach for Queen Victoria
and injured her when he tipped the coach over while driving drunk!
But this story is totally inconsistent with what else we know about William Smith.
Ours was a pub owner with a wife and child before and after the Queen incident.
I don't believe he could change jobs so radically back and forth to make this happen.

  • ** I found a record for a William Smith, coachman, separate from our family line.

October 7th 1863, about 7pm. Country road near Balmoral.
(I have the story in a separate document)
