emigration: From England to Virginia Colony in 1711 on the "Oliver.“
LifeSketch:
Before Feb. 1, 1713, Dinah Mason Thorowgood Wilson had married (3) William Trevathan of Princess Anne Co., who filed settlement of estates of Capt. Robt. Thorowgood, and of Samuel Wilson dec'd in favor of their respective orphans. (P.A. Co. Va., D. B. 2, p. 195).
Order of Marriages:
Dinahs Children Became StepChildren of William Travathan Mary Lassiter: Mentions William and Mary Lassiter Trevathan's step-sons: Thomas and Robert Thoroughgood; and Stephen Wright. (Thomas and Robert are correct. The error is Stephen Wright. Dinah's second husband was Samuel Wilson and they had Willis Wilson who was raised by his uncle, Solomon Wilson. Willis should have been listed as the third "step-child." Stephen Wright was actually the second husband of Mary Trevethan, the niece of William Trevethan, and daughter of William's brother Sampson and his first wife, Anne Church.)
Granted Land : 50 acres of dismal swampy land near Lynhaven, Virginia, recorded in the County Patent Book 14 June 1714.
How Did William Get from Virginia Back to North Carolina: William's second wife was Mary Lassiter. Mary's father died and she inherited land from him along Bennett's Creek in Chowan County, North Carolina. It was this land that brought William and Mary from Princess Anne, Virginia, back to North Carolina. Robert Lassiter's will named his daughter, Mary, and her husband William Trevathan. Robert made it clear that the land could only pass from William and Mary to the children of Mary's body. (I think this was to avoid any problems with the step-children---children of Dinah Mason.)
