Death 1882/9351 Kiama; Vidler, William, son of William.

The Kiama Independent, and Shoalhaven Advertiser (NSW) Tue 3 Jan 1882

JAMBEROO, (FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT. )

WITHIN the last few days two more of our old respected residents have departed this life. I refer to the decease of Mr. William Vidler and his wife.

He was the eldest of five brothers, who, for about thirty-five years have been settled within easy reach of each other on the Curramore estate, Jamberoo. His four brothers, John, James, Stephen, and Edwin, all well advanced in years, still survive.

The health of the deceased old couple had been failing for some time, but especially so during the last six months; and on Christmas eve Mr. Vidler breathed his last, having attained the ripe old age of eighty-three.

Mrs. Vidler was very ill at the time of her partner's death, and two days later she also died at the age of eighty six. Both of them having been members of the Wesleyan church during life, they were interred in the Jamberoo burying ground, the Rev. H. Woodhouse officiating at the grave.

Cootamundra Herald (NSW) Wed 18 Jan 1882; Crumbs:

(Snip) The following paragraph will be interesting to many of our readers : — A correspondent of the Kiama Reporter says —

A death record, not indeed, specially melacholy, but somewhat remarkable in its character, invites notice this Christmas-tide, in connection with Jamberoo and its early settlers. There were with us five brethren, natives of the land of Kent, and named Vidler.

William, the eldest of these, died about four o'clock in the afternoon of Christmas Day ; and from twenty-four to thirty hours afterwards his wife, Harriet, breathed her last.

William Vidler was born in April 1799, and was consequently upwards of eighty-two years of age at his death. His wife was two years older ; and therefore there is little occasion to say anything more as to the cause of death in either instance.

At the time the husband expired, it was quite well known to those in attendance that the wife might at any moment follow and nearly at the same hours on the afternoons of Monday and of Tuesday following Christmas-day, the hearse carried its successive burdens from the farm where the aged couple had lived, to the Wesleyan burial ground in this village, — the deceased, with their numerous relatives, having always been, I believe, members of the Wesleyan connexion (Snip).
