http://www.southafricansettlers.com/?p=8512
1820 British Settler
William John Webster 21, Labourer together with his wife Elizabeth Gray 20, were members of Scott's Party of 37 Settlers on the Settler Ship Nautilus.
Party originated from Surrey
Departure London, 3 December 1819 Arrival Table Bay, Cape Town - 17 March 1820 Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth 14 April 1820
Area Allocated to the Party : Krap River
---------------------------------------------
William John Webster came out in the Nautilus as part of Scott's party. Although some sources show his surname to be Webber, there does not seem to be any further decendants of the Webber in Scotts party. Our family history certainly records WILLIAM coming out on the "Nautilus". In the list of settlers that made up Scott's party, there is not a Webber but William and Elizabeth Webster.
I do not have any knowledge of who the 10 year old child William was. Possibly a child travelling under the care of the Websters.
According to our family history, either William or his son John, became the first "Constable" of Grahamstown.
