William Wetherhold apparently courted Sarah Sieger, who bore him his first-born child out of wedlock in 1830. While William granted him his name, he apparently married Sophiana Kohler even before his first-born son was christened. Sophiana born him a son very shortly thereafter as well. It is not clear what household arrangement was in place for William's upbringing but I would expect him to have been raised in the household of his mother. This indeed seems to be the case, because William never went out to the Midwest, unlike all of his half-siblings.
We know this because the records imply that the William that this profile describes was originally surnamed "Sieger", as was the convention for unmarried births at the time.
