Biography
Lieutenant General William Wynyard was born in 1732 at Minorca, Illes Balears, Spain. He was the son of Lieutenant General John Wynyard and Mary Maxwell.
He served in the 3rd Regiment of Foot for nearly 30 years.
William married Mary Sophia Otway (1724-57) in 1752, with whom he had a daughter, Maria Caroline, and a son, John.
He married Catherine St Leger (1736-64) in 1758, with whom he had at least four children, one of whom rose to the rank of General.
In 1768 he married, thirdly, Sarah Lilley (1750-), with whom he had six children.
On 25th March 1782, King George III appointed him to the honorary colonelcy of the 20th Regiment of Foot and he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 1787.
He passed away on 25th January 1789.
