About Winifred Cowley MacDougall Swindell

Was a nurse and probably worked in Rhodesia when her husband was there

After death of JP MacDougall took family to Cape Town and worked as a Nursing Sister in the leper colony on Roben Island. Met Chief Pharmacist, John Swindell and married him on November 17th 1919 in Durban.

Moved to Bloemfontein and after death of John Swindell went to Durban and worked as a Housekeeper in the Royal Hotel Durban.

Arrived in the UK at Southampton on 13th June 1938, a widow, on the Dunnottar Castle from Durban. Intending to stay and has employment as a housekeeper with address as 85 Clareston Street, Victoria SW1. Certainly the same place as in 1939 but with spelling differences!

1939 is in the UK with her divorced daughter at 85 Claverton Road, City of Westmister where she and her daughter are employed as hotel linen keepers. The year of birth 1878 is two years out but the day and month is correct according to Barry MacDougall.

Went down to Cornwall during the war and worked as a maid in the King Arthur Hotel.

Returned to South Africa after the war but no record found.
