Albrecht and Marcianna emigrated from West Prussia (Poland) through the Port of Hamburg and sailed from there on May 4, 1868, landed in Quebec City, July 4, 1868. They crossed the Atlantic aboard the LEIBIG (National Archives reel # 4523.) They lost one son at sea. It was reported the body washed up on shore. They then made their way to Wisconsin then back to Renfrew, Ontario, Canada, eventually settling, in Horton Lot 15, Con. 2, R.R. # 5, Renfrew, Ont. Albert Sr. name was originally KOBUS but was changed to Cobus so as not to conflict with his son Albert jr. who lived in the town. Mail was always being redirected to the confusion of both parties. The Federal Post office alone with my Grandfather Anthony made the change but never recorded their move. Subsequently when Anthony applied for Old Age Security his birth records still contained the name KOBUS and legal intervention was needed. Albert sr. was reported to be a difficult man who drank a lot. Was known to travel by foot from Renfrew to Ottawa, during the winter; be gone for several days arriving home drunk and brook. He also gambled and at one time sold the farm only to repurchase the lot back again. Margaret on the other hand was a mild mannered person.
