Yhoshua Hanna Rawnitzky

Yehoshua Ḥana Rawnitzki (Hebrew: יהושע חנא רבניצקי‎; 13 September 1859 – 4 May 1944) was a Hebrew publisher, editor, and collaborator of Hayim Nahman Bialik.

Biography

Yehoshua Ḥana Rawnitzki was born to a poor Jewish family in Odessa in 1859. He began his journalistic career in 1879, by contributing first to Ha-Kol, and then to other periodicals. He was the editor and publisher of Pardes, a literary collection best known for publishing Hayim Nahman Bialik's first poem, "El ha-Tzippor," in 1892. With Sholem Aleichem (under the pseudonym Eldad), Rawnitzki (under the pseudonym Medad) published a series of feuilletons entitled Kevurat Soferim ("The Burial of Writers"). From 1908 through 1911, Rawnitzki and Bialik published Sefer Ha-Aggadah ("The Book of Legends") a compilation of aggadah from the Mishnah, the two Talmuds and the Midrash literature.

Rawnitzki moved to Palestine in 1921, where he took part in the founding of the Dvir publishing house. He died there in May 1944. He is buried in Trumpeldor Tel Aviv cemetery together with his colleagues Hayim Nahman Bialik and Shmariahu Levin

יהושע חנא רבניצקי ( י"ד באלול ה'תרי"ט, 13 בספטמבר 1859, אודסה – י"א באייר ה'תש"ד, 4 במאי 1944, תל אביב) היה עיתונאי ומו"ל עברי ממוצא רוסי.

יחד עם שלום עליכם כתב ביקורות ספרות, תחת שם העט המשותף "אלדד ומידד". שימש יושב-ראש לשכת ארגון "בני משה" מייסודו של אחד העם.

בין השנים 1897–1892 ערך את כתב העת "פרדס" (שבו הודפס שירו הראשון של חיים נחמן ביאליק, "אל הציפור"). י

בשנת 1901 ייסד באודסה, יחד עם ביאליק, ש. בן ציון, מאיר דיזנגוף ואלחנן ליב לוינסקי את הוצאת "מוריה" (לימים "דביר"), שמטרתה הייתה להוציא לאור ספרי לימוד בעברית.

בין השנים 1905–1911 ערך עם ביאליק את "ספר האגדה". י

בשנת 1918 ייסד באודסה עם ביאליק ודרויאנוב את המאסף לזכרונות, אתנוגרפיה ופולקלור – "רשומות" – אשר שם לו למטרה לבטא את ההוויה והמסורת של כל תפוצות ישראל.

בשנת 1921 עלה לארץ ישראל ב"אוניית הסופרים". נפטר בשנת 1944, ונטמן בבית הקברות טרומפלדור לא הרחק משותפיו חיים נחמן ביאליק ושמריהו לוין. על שמו רחובות בפתח תקווה ובתל אביב.
