About Jonah Erich Fränkel
Jonah Frankel, also spelled Yonah Frankel, Jonah Fraenkel (1928-2012) was an author, Hebrew literature professor and Israel Prize laureate.
Biography
Jonah Frankel was born in Munich in 1928 and emigrated to Israel in 1937 when the Nazis came to power. He was a Professor Emeritus of Aggadah and Midrash in the Department of Hebrew Literature at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has been described as "One of the most important scholars of the modern study of midrash"

- Darkhei Ha-Aggadah VeHa-Midrash (The Ways of the Midrash and the Aggadah), a two volume set, is an encyclopedic guide to the study of Midrash and Aggadah in broader Jewish culture.

Awards and honors
- In 1993, Jonah Frankel received the Bialik Prize for significant accomplishments in Hebrew literature.

יונה פרנקל (3 באוגוסט 1928 (י"ז באב ה'תרפ"ח) - 2 בספטמבר 2012 (ט"ו באלול ה'תשע"ב)) היה פרופסור לספרות האגדה והמדרש. חתן פרס ישראל בחקר התלמוד.
ביוגרפיה
פרנקל נולד במינכן שבגרמניה, ועלה ארצה ב-1937 עם משפחתו. בוגר ישיבת בני עקיבא כפר הרואה. מ-1946 למד בסמינר הדתי למדריכים של עליית הנוער. למד באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים תלמוד וספרות עברית, שם קיבל תואר מוסמך ב-1963 ותואר דוקטור ב-1968. עבודת הדוקטורט שלו הייתה בנושא "דרכו של רש"י בפירושו לתלמוד הבבלי". י
פרנקל שימש מרצה באוניברסיטה העברית, במכללה דתית למורים ע"ש רא"מ ליפשיץ ובבית המדרש לרבנים באמריקה בניו יורק. נחשב מגדולי המומחים בעולם בזמנו לתחום האגדה בספרות חז"ל
בשנת 1994 קיבל את "פרס ביאליק לחכמת ישראל" של עיריית תל אביב על ספרו "דרכי האגדה והמדרש". בשנת 2000 קיבל את פרס ישראל בחקר התלמוד
