Yvonne (69), a French chef and restauranteur, was overpowered in her bed, stabbed in the neck multiple times, at Marine Drive, Ramsgate, then her body burned, on 7th January 2008.
After 21-year-old Thulekha Qunu murdered Yvonne, the owner and chef of Le Petit Normandie, whom he worked for, dug a hole in the garden, put her body in it, covered it with a plastic bag, poured petrol in the hole, and set it alight.
Quna claimed in court, on 15th August 2009, that Yvonne did not treat him well. A week, he attempted to negotiate these charges with the State but Prosecutor Adele Janse van Vuuren did not accept his version and attempted to prove premeditation. The State alleged that he went to see Cosson that day armed with the scissors and stabbed her several times. Quna stated he was "not in control" when he stabbed her with scissors.
The trial was to continue at the end of August 2009, but a conclusion cannot be found.
Cosson ran a restaurant in Paris many years ago, has been well-known in the South Coast area for the past two decades.
Le Petite Normandie was regularly nominated as one of the top eating establishments in KwaZulu-Natal and in 2005 her restaurant won the Eat Out Johnnie Walker Top Country Kitchens award.
