Zachariah F. Isbell (1765-1821) married Sarah "Sally" Abney, according to The Descendants of Philip Pendleton, A Virginia Colonist by David Ellis Pendleton. Also written D'Abney and Dabney. Some other researchers had listed her as Sarah Furlong based on speculation.
Zachariah was a son of William and Ann Dillard Isbell. One researcher believed his burial site in the Isbell cemetery in Albemarle County, Virginia, but it is likely that she should have placed it in Amherst County, Virginia, where he was living at the time of the 1820 census.
The widow Sarah, her son, Zachariah and two other sons and several daughters moved to Missouri about 1825, stopping first in Gasconade County, then in Osage County which was formed from Gasconade, and eventually arriving in Maries County where they settled.
Zachariah Isbell Jr. was the first Sheriff of Osage County, 1841-44, and representative in the Missouri Legislature 1852-56. A post office was named for him, Isbell Station, located on the bluff across from the family cemetery. He married first Elizabeth Wallace and, secondly, Amelia Moore. Both wives are buried with him on his family farm.
