Wealthy planter in Randolph County North Carolina who didn't believe in slavery, as his many of his Friends Society relatives raised money to send his slaves, his brother's slaves, his uncles slaves and many of The Friend's Society Slaves were sent back to Haiti by ship verified by a Newspaper article when his brother, Phineas Nixon, III. Zach opposed slavery, returned slaves to Haiti in 1826, many years before the Civil War, [https://www.newspapers.com/clip/36333900/the_arkansas_gazette/] Phineas Nixon, III carried them back to their homeland. The Nixon's, although had slaves listed on Census Reports for generations, didn't believe in slavery, they were protecting the slaves, paying them when they worked and were not popular among other landowners around them.

Views on Slavery [https://archive.org/stream/towardfreedomfor00hilt/towardfreedomfor0...] Important note, The Nixons did not believe in Slavery, they were the first American immigrants to free their slaves, when slaves were listed on Census Reports they were living at the Nixon's and working for them for wages. The Nixon Family protected them.
