About Zdenka Klein
Zděnka Abelesová was born in Prague on 31 May, 1898, to Regina Freschl and Adolf Abeles, the fifth of eight children. She was well-educated, and the first Jew to attend a Czech Gymnasium. One of her professors was Alice Masaryk, daughter of the first president of Czechoslovakia, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. On 26 Mar., 1922, she married pediatrician Rudolf Klein and their only child, Nina Dorothea Kleinová, was born on 26 Jan., 1923. On 8 Feb., 1942, Zděnka and Rudolf were transported from Senovážné náměstí, 29 in Prague, to Terezin, on Transport W-772. They survived over two years in Terezin, and on 23 Oct., 1944, were transported on the last transport but one, to Auschwitz, where they soon perished. There is a Stolperstein installed in front of their last Prague address.
