About Zhu Biao 朱標
eldest son of Chu Yüan-chang, was born at T'ai-p'ing (Anhwei), the stronghold on the south bank of the Yangtze River which had been captured that summer, and which served as Chu's base until he was able to seize Nanking in the spring of 1356. His mother (according to official sources) was the future Empress Ma. In 1364, when his father assumed the title of prince of Wu, Chu Piao was designated his heir to the princedom 世子, and when the former was proclaimed emperor in 1368, Chu Piao was simultaneously designated the imperial heir apparent 皇太子.
