Biography:
Alfred dÓrsay Barry born 7. May 1830 in Genoa, Italy
like his older brother Richard (born 14.June1825) he is pupil and Graduate of
the kk Naval Academy in Trieste and started a career with the austrian Navy.
14.Feb.1854 he marries Virginia Lambert (born 19.Sept.1831) in Trieste.

              2.) Olga born 23.Aug.1856 Trieste
              3.) Alice Henriette born 27.July1858 Venice

9.May 1859 Capt. Alfred Barry anchors the kk Navy Brigg "Triton" outside
the harbour of Ragusa (Dubrovnik).While he is ashore, "Triton" catches fire,
explodes and sinks.
9.May 1864 Sea-battle of Helgoland: kk Propeller-Fregate "Schwarzenberg"
(51 guns) commanded by Wilhelm von Tegetthoff and kk Propeller-Fregate
"Radetzky" (37 guns) under Alfred Barry fight against 3 danish Fegates and
force them to retreat to Norway, freeing the siege of the german ports.
20. June 1866 Sea-battle of Lissa (Vis): the austrian Navy fleet under
Contre-Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff defeat the italian fleet in their attempt
to occupy the island of Lissa. Alfred Barry is captain of the kk Armor-Fregate
"Prinz Eugen" (3588t). Afterwards he receives the title: "Alfred Ritter von Barry"
and becomes kk Vice-Admiral. Eventually he becomes Harbour-Captain of Pula,
the most important Navy-Base of the austrian Monarchy.
5.Jan.1870 his mother Mathilda Barry/Laurie dies in Pula and receives a grave in
the kk Navy Cemetary there.
14. May 1882 his son Charles marries Marianne(Mimi) Hoch (born 28.Oct.1863)
in Vienna and moves there.
Upon retirement ca.1890 Alfred von Barry moves to Vienna and lives in the house
of his sons family: Waehring;Martinstrasse 83. The summers are spent in the familys
summerhouse in Steinkogl (between Ebensee and Bad Ischl). Emperor Franz-Josef
visits the family there during his hunting trips in the area.
12.Nov.1900 his wife Virginia von Barry/Lambert dies in Vienna.
2.July1907 Alfred Ritter von Barry dies in Steinkogl and is also buried in the Barry-grave
in Vienna; Gersthof cemetary.
