unknown “Florence” Brasseur

The maiden surname of Florence, wife of Robert Brasseur, is UNKNOWN. It was not Fowke. An Elizabeth Fowke, daughter of Chandler Fowke, and granddaughter of Gerard Fowke, married Zachariah BRAZIER in Stafford County, Virginia, in 1759. Her ancestry, with the dates shifted back over a century, has been fraudulently attached to Florence wife of Robert Brasseur. (Florence?) wife of Robert Brasseur, presumably died in Virginia sometime after her arrival (generally assumed to be c. 1635 or so); Robert Brasseur patented 1200 acres in Nansemond County in 1653, for transporting various persons, among whom was "his wife Florence", indicating that she was alive when he came to Virginia.

• note: the "Robert" above who patented land in Nansemond County appears to be Robert II; there seems to be no evidence that the first Robert was married to anyone named Florence, or indeed any evidence that provides a name for his wife or wives.
