Research Note by Genealogist of Clan Sutherland

James Sutherland, 2nd Lord Duffus had a daughter named Frances and another daughter named Catherine. I have not seen any evidence supporting the view that he had a daughter named "Frances Catherine".

When Frances Katharine Sutherland was born on 15 April 1664, in Duffus, Morayshire, Scotland, her father, Alexander Sutherland 1st Lord of Duffus, was 42 and her mother, Margaret Stewart, was 33. She married Alexander Archibald McCoy in 1689, in Farr, Sutherland, Scotland. They were the parents of at least 11 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 6 October 1748, in Sutherland, Scotland, United Kingdom, at the age of 84, and was buried in Farr Parish Churchyard, Bettyhill, Highland, Scotland, United Kingdom.
