Bexar County, Texas has a long rich history that goes back more than a hundred years before its official existence as Bexar County.

Bexar County was known as the Department of Bexar for a few short years under the Mexican government. However, this area was settled in 1718 by the Spaniards, and before the Spaniards, Indigenous American Indians and their predecessors are known to have inhabited this area going back at least 11,000 years.
