Big Cedar Cemetery, Brookville, Indiana

In May 1819 Job Stout and William Hetrick each deeded one acre of land for a church and burying ground. The first Big Cedar Grove Baptist Church was a log cabin. In May 1835 they decided a better church building was needed and by December 1837 the first service was held in the new brick church that was equipped with a stove. The Big Cedar Cemetery Association was formed April 1899 and in 1901 the church transferred all interest in the graveyard to that association. In September 1959 the church was disbanded. The cemetery is still active and the church building is now maintained by the Big Cedar Cemetery Association. It is not known for sure who was the first buried here for so many unmarked graves. The oldest inscription on a tombstone is of John Hetrick, a child who died in 1820.

The cemetery is located in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana.
