Binghamton State Hospital Cemetery, Binghamton, New York

Binghamton State Hospital Cemetery is in Broome County and was a cemetery for the asylum of the same name.
"In 1858, the New York State Inebriate Asylum was founded for the medical treatment of inebriates. The building sits on 250 acres. The original graves of 1500 patients who died there were relocated in 1961 when Interstate 81 was constructed. The names of those who are interred here are of public record and can be found at the Broome County Public Library, Binghamton, New York."

"Binghamton Asylum for the Chronic Insane was the second New York State Asylum for the “Chronic Insane” ONLY that opened on October 19, 1881; Willard was the first opening on October 13, 1869. In 1890, ALL NYS Insane Asylums became “state hospitals” and accepted both chronic and acute patients. Binghamton State Hospital served the counties of Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Madison, Otsego, Schoharie, and Tioga. "
