Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, New York

Calvary Cemetery was founded in 1875, the second cemetery established by St. John's Catholic Church. St. John's first cemetery was started in 1841, sited on the Delaware Turnpike, in a country area south of the city. By the 1870s Albany had expanded and annexed the area around the cemetery. Little land was left for more gravesites and by the late 1870s the Albany City Council ordered the cemetery to be closed. To allow for commercial development along the now busy Delaware Avenue, the bodies from the original site had to be moved. Some 20,000 graves were relocated to Calvary and other local, Catholic cemeteries.

The cemetery is located on 481 Route 9W, Glenmont, Albany County, New York.
