Coalville Cemetery is located in the Community of Woolmarket, in Harrison County, on the Lorraine Road and is located across the road from Coalville Methodist Church, which both were established in 1852 by the coal burner families (Pioneer Families) in the community. The area where the Coalville Cemetery lies is the spot where coal burners made charcoal for home use and bound by schooners to the markets of Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Coalville Cemetery is the community burial site for most of the families that lived in the area and at different times, since it was established it has had people of the community that were the overseers of burials and grave digging.
Rev. Louis Fayard was the custodian of the burials until his death and was assisted in the burials by "Boss" Husley who dug many of the graves in this old cemetery. Other grave diggers were Charlie Fayard (Grandson of Rev. Louis Fayard) and James 'Jimmy' Lyle.
Mr. Johnny Ross was also Custodian in the cemetery as well as Henry Curry and later it went to Mazie Husley Stewart.
At present M.L. Richardson is the record keeper for this cemetery and had his Grandfather's records (Mr. John Ross) and there are more than 1900 graves at present time, which a few people have started to record on Findagrave for future generations to have this information available when they are looking for ancestors.
This cemetery is the burial site for Civil War Soldiers, which were soldiers for the Confederate States of America (CSA)all having CSA Tombstones and the records keeper Mr. M.L. Richardson lists them as: George Armstrong, George Arnold, James F. Bullock, Sarden Byrd, Sylvester 'Sylvan' Fayard, Robert Vance Krohn, N.M. Taylor and E.H. Yelverton as well as old Sea going Schooner Captains and Mariners, Farmers, Loggers and various other trades and their families and in this community, most everyone knew each other, many were related by direct kinship and marriages. It was a close knit society and was a very closed community for many years, where few outsiders entered to live. Only within the last 20 or so years, when the elders died off the land was sold. It has a history of pioneer families that settled and made this community a wonderful place to grow up.
