The photograph is owned by the McGuire family, members of which are believed related to the Wendell Fertig family. The photograph was given to the McGuire family by Wendell Fertig in 1963. They later scanned and uploaded it to their family Web site. This is the only photograph of Wendell Fertig I have been able to obtain with permission to use it freely on Wikipedia. This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1977, inclusive, without a copyright notice.
