This project is dedicated to the German and British military history of our family. Many of our ancestors served in the German military, while others served in the British military, including German immigrants who joined the British military upon arrival in the UK.
This project aims to explore and celebrate our family's connections to both the German and British military, and to connect with any living relatives who may have served in either military. We invite all family members to join this project and share any information, stories, or photos they have about their military ancestors.
Through this project, we hope to learn more about the military careers of our ancestors, including where they served, what battles or conflicts they were involved in, and what military honours they received. We also hope to explore the historical and cultural context of our ancestors' military service, and to gain a deeper appreciation for the contributions of German and British soldiers to military history.
Some possible topics for discussion and exploration in this project include:
German military history: What conflicts did our German ancestors serve in? What was the nature of their service? What German military decorations did they receive?
German immigrants in the British military: What motivated our German ancestors to join the British military? What experiences did they have serving in the British military as German immigrants?
British military history: What conflicts did our British ancestors serve in? What was the nature of their service? What British military decorations did they receive?
Military life: What was life like for our military ancestors while they were serving? What challenges did they face?
Historical and cultural context: What historical events and cultural factors influenced our ancestors' military service?
We look forward to exploring these topics and more in the Deutsch-Britische Militärgeschichte project. Together, we can gain a deeper appreciation for the military history of our family and the contributions of German and British soldiers to military history.
