Established about 1816 on an area then known as the "Gospel Village Common". Originally a 4 acre tract of land. The first interments were re-interments from an old burying ground dating back to 1796. In 1854, and again in 1920, additional land was acquired, bringing the total area of Elmwood Cemetery to approximately 21 acres. The Barre City* Cemetery and Parks Department is responsible for maintenance.
The cemetery is located on Washington Street & Hill Street, Barre, Washington County, Vermont.
