In 1938, Graceland Cemetery encompassed land both north and south of what is now Maine Street, from just east of 36th Street for about 1/3 mile to the east. Since that time, Maine Street was extended through the cemetery and subsequent residential and commercial development took all of the area north of Maine Street except for the area occupied by the Quincy National Cemetery. It is also known as Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
