
Grafton State Home plans were drawn up circa 1904, 40 acres were obtained for a state Penitentiary but the site was used for the Institution for the Feeble Minded at Grafton, Walsh County North Dakota. (Euphemism to institute any social deviants of the time*) Building started 1910 and continued through 1978. In 1910 Hospital Erected, 1912 North Ward, followed by Garden House, Refectory, Dormitories, Power Plant, Five staff Cottages, West Hall, Wylie Hall, and Auditorium and Cemetery was established with first burials in 1931.
