Kerr County was formed in 1856 and was named by Joshua D. Brown for his fellow Kentucky native, James Kerr, a congressman of the Republic of Texas.
In 1963, Hud starring Paul Newman was filmed at Camp Waldemar in Hunt and in 1975, The Great Waldo Pepper starring Robert Redford was filmed in Kerrville.
