This is a very old Cemetery and was a Baptist Churchyard in the early days of Deerfield along with its neighboring cemetery, The Philbrick Yard, which was not fenced in those days. The first church building to be constructed in Deerfield was built just opposite this yard in 1770 by the Baptists and most, if not all, of the people buried in these two yards were Baptists.
