My May ancestry is from County Dublin according to paper trail ancestry. Autosomal DNA results suggest that prior to County Dublin, there is possible May ancestry from County Mayo or from elsewhere in Connacht. Munster also shows up in autosomal DNA results.

The highest concentration of those of the surname May with Irish ancestry appears to be in County Sligo.
