Middletown is the oldest town in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, having been founded in 1755. It is bordered on one side by the Susquehanna River and the Swatara Creek on the other. It has a very rich history, including canals, railroads, and ex-military base, Fort Meade, which was used during the Civil War, and other noteable moments in the history of the county and the city of Harrisburg.

  • Simon Cameron, U.S. Senator and Secretary of War (March 8, 1799 – June 26, 1889) was an American politician who served as United States Secretary of War for Abraham Lincoln at the start of the American Civil War. Cameron made his fortune in railways, canals and banking, founding the Bank of Middletown. His home and bank still stand on Main St and are on the National Register of Historic Places.
