"Mount Moriah was established in 1877 by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Masonic Lodge of Butte. The two organizations acquired 45 acres for $5.00 from the Northern Pacific Railroad. The cemetery encompasses the Chinese cemetery as well. In 2000, the cemetery became a private, non-profit organization overseen by a six-member board of directors and managed by a sexton and office manager."
