This project is for those who are buried in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Mount Moriah Cemetery, situated in Philadelphia and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania encompasses 380 acres with approximately 200,000 to 300,000 burials. In April 2011, the cemetery was abandoned and the Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery, Inc. began working to restore the property, which had been neglected for many years. The Mount Moriah Cemetery Association, incorporated in 1855, is still in existence; however, there are no surviving members of the corporation. Since 2014, the cemetery has been under the care of a receivership granted by the Orphans Court of Philadelphia to the non-profit Mount Moriah Preservation Corporation. If you would like assistance in locating your ancestor on site, contact the Friends of Mount Moriah Cemetery at info@fommci.org.
Naval Plot and Soldiers Lot is located within the Mount Moriah Cemetery. Burials are mostly sailors and soldiers from the Civil War era and the plots have fallen into disrepair so caution is asked when visiting this area. Both areas are overseen by the Beverly National Cemetery and infomation about the sites should be directed to that office during normal duty hours. 215 504 5610 or go to the Department of Veterans Affairs website.
